Star Vision Fleet Management System (SVFMS)

The Star Vision Fleet Management System (SVFMS) is a system to monitor cars on land or even for ships in real time using Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and local telephone communication network such as GPRS.

Designed originally in Canada and with localization in Hong Kong, the system has the integration of the innovative technologies in GIS, GPS and GPRS. Star Vision is a GIS consultancy firm that specialises in geographic information system, digital map database and satellite image analysis for digital map making.

The SVFMS performs dynamic vehicle tracking and real time display on location workstation or Web. All routing, history, management and operational data of unlimited vehicles or ships are stored in relational database. The navigation history can be reviewed at any time after data tracking. In additions, the system is designed in a flexible basis so that the driver, GPS and vehicle information can be updated at multi-users and concurrent assess through Internet, Intranet and Extranet environment.

To enhance the positioning accuracy if necessary, the system is not limited to use GPS, other aided technologies like, GPS with Differential correction (DGPS), terrestrial positioning technologies Dead Reckoning (DR), Map Matching and Reference Beacon (RF) can be designed for specific needs in the system.

Vehicles usually can be tracked under few metres accuracy in Hong Kong under good open sky condition. The derived coordinates can then be sent to Vehicle Control Centre through GPRS, the position of the vehicles would be displayed in real time and the history would be recorded in the database for further query, reporting and analysis.

The system can be customized to provide good solution in logistic management, warehouse management, field operational system, RFID system, traffic flow management and security management.
