The Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is one of the leading departments in the world in its disciplines. LSGI has been using PhotoModeler for many years.
Prof. Bruce King is an expert in using PhotoModeler technologies and has being using the software for many years. His laboratory, equipped with 36 Photomodeler software is a centre of excellence of PhotoModeler technologies in Hong Kong.
PhotoModeler is not only able to measure position, distance/length, area and volume of any objects captured by a pair of photograph (stereo-pair), it is also able to create 3D point clouds automatically similar to 3D Laser Scanning technology. In close range conditions; near the object, this technology can produce higher precision and accuracy than 3D Laser Scanning technology.
This new technology produces full colour 3D point cloud from the original photographs or photographs automatically extracted from video.
New applications are commonly found in Hong Kong and internationally for construction, engineering, environmental, interior design, architecture and forensic projects as well as many others that you may not think of.
