Hong Kong Civil Engineering and Development Department, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China, has been using Agisoft technology for few years. It is believed that they are the first Agisoft technology expert among HKSAR department.

Mr. Ben Choi is the leading land surveyor using this technology to solve digital elevation model surveying in quarry survey projects within the HKSAR.

Other departments are now using Agisoft technology as well, such as the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Lands Department, Water Supply Department, etc.

Local private firm, Chung Wo, is the leading Agisoft user using this new technology for mainland China construction and reclamation projects.

Agisoft technology is not only able to measure position, distance/length, area and volume of any objects captured by a pair or a series of photograph (stereo-pairs), it also able to create 3D point clouds automatically similar to 3D Laser Scanning technology. In close range conditions; near the object, this technology can produce higher precision and accuracy than 3D Laser Scanning technology. This new technology produces full colour 3D point clouds from the original photographs or photographs extracted from video.

New applications are commonly found in Hong Kong and internationally for construction, engineering, environmental, interior design, architecture and forensic projects as well as many others that you may not think of.  SVL is promoting this land surveying specialized technology called photogrammetry locally and internationally.
